Industry Applicability of the Bombay Industrial Act

My queries are:

• In which industry is the Bombay Industrial Act applicable? Why/reason?

• How can one determine which act, the Bombay Industrial Relations Act (BIR Act), or the Industrial Disputes Act (ID Act), is applicable to an industry?

Thank you.

The Industrial Disputes (ID) Act is universally applicable. The Bombay Industrial Relations Act, now renamed as the Maharashtra Industrial Relations Act (MIRA), is applicable to Maharashtra and Gujarat. It mainly applies to industries such as sugar, cotton textile, co-operative banking, textile processing, power looms, wool, and silk, where 20 or more persons are working. Specific notifications to that effect are mostly found in the respective statute books.
