Dear Learner,
The transition of a Student into the Professional world is a very important phase in everyone's life. The real test of their life begins by gaining an acceptance of the realities in the corporate world. The important thing to remember here is that students come across many stories told by family members, friends, senior students, etc. and this sometimes can create anxiety for them.
The modules prepared should be based on real life scenarios they will face in the Corporate world and how to get the basics right that helps them gain confidence and not lose face when engaging their first professional assignment. Students do through millions of questions in the transformation process and the training should address their queries.
Suggestions:
Module 1
Attitude - Very important as they are making a transition into a controlled environment where no one is a fellow student or buddy. It is therefore important for them to understand the fact that in the Corporate world you stand alone. They need to bring a change in their attitude about this.
Module 2
Verbal Skills - The modes of addressing people in business. Are we still in the age of SIR/MADAM? Is it going to be a more open culture. They need to be mentally prepared and need to learn to get the basics right. This could be as simple as writing an email.
Module 3
Non Verbal Skills - Body language plays an important part. The use of hands for expressions, facial expressions, frowns, legs, stance. They all have a meaning and people read them well.
Module 4
Dress Codes - They need to invest wisely by choosing the right outfit for work. Casual wear to be avoided at all times. Colour codes (at work people want a professional not Govinda in purple pants and yellow shirts). Socks, shoes, ties (all these give a brief insight about the professional standards and impression a person carries). EX- White socks in the Corporate World are considered a disaster. The colour of the socks should always match the colour of the trousers or shoes.
Module 5
Greeting People in Business - Hello, How are you? or Wassup?
Module 6
Business Meal Etiquette - The rule of the fork and the knife, etc. While most freshers will get familiar with the local eateries outside the office, it is always good to know what needs to be done if they are in a situation.
Teamwork and Conflict Management - Student tend to be more aggressive at times when they enter the Corporate World as they have to mature in ways a business, an organization, processes s and bureaucracy works. It takes months and sometimes years to understand why a particular request is approved or declined. In such circumstances the students aggression is not going to work. Their maturity in handling such situations will win the day.
