Considering a Career in HR at a Construction Company: Is It a Smart Move for Growth?

Hi,

I received a job offer from a construction company. Please let me know, is it good to work in HR in a construction company? If I work with them for a certain period of time, is my career secure enough to grow with them?

Hi,

There is no harm in working with a construction company provided the systems are in place. Otherwise, you can always put the systems in place or streamline the policies. Construction seems to be an unorganized sector, so the job profile may also be disorganized. However, today this sector is growing rapidly.

No problem.

Hi,

I think a career in any sector is not bad at all. It actually depends on your interest in that particular sector you would like to work in. HR is not limited to IT, ITEs, banking, or any specific sector. If you are genuinely interested in working with a construction firm, then go ahead. There are many big players in the construction sector who offer good pay.

If you are new to the industry, I mean a fresher, it's better to start with any opportunity at hand. Remember that "There is no substitution for experience when it comes to any corporate job."

Thanks,

Hi!

I am working in the construction industry, and there is a dearth of good HR professionals since this was largely an unorganized sector. With the influx of FDI and private equity participation, things are looking up. It's a good time to join this industry since the learning opportunities would be great. Go ahead.

Thanks

Hi Manjali,

Construction is booming; there is no doubt about it. In my college, many of my colleagues did their summer training at Shapoorji, and trust me, they learned a lot. So, it really depends on how you take it. Your growth depends on how proactive you are. Do you have the eagerness to learn? And definitely, you have to prove yourself. I wish you good luck in your career.

Hi,

The construction industry is at a nascent stage right now and is trying to professionalize quickly, especially as they work on more regional/global projects. Hence, the HR function can add a lot of value as the industry is highly manpower intense.

While the appreciation for the HR role needs to be created by the professionals in the industry now, you would be a part of professionals laying the base. L&T is one of the highly respected companies in terms of HR practices and programs, and a part of their business is in construction.

This is an opportunity to create....be a part of high growth.

Best wishes,
Anuraag

Hi,

Thanks for the insights you all have given on the Infra Industry for HR. I am in my final year of MBA in HR in Hyderabad. I have an interview with IVRCL for an HR position. Could you all please give some advice regarding the industry and the company? I have 6 months of experience in the IT industry in the HR field. How different would it be? I want to make my career in HR. Would this opportunity help me in that direction?

Hope to hear from the industry soon!

Best regards,

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me the roles of an HR Executive in a construction company? I am pursuing PGDHRM from Symbiosis. Now, I want to implement HR activities in the company. Please suggest how to start. Currently, I am handling staff attendance, recruitment, leaves of all employees, joining formalities, etc. Besides these activities, what more can I implement/add to the HR role?

Please suggest and guide me. I am looking forward to more responses from your end.

Thanks & Regards,
Tabassum
