Navigating HR Careers: Is Starting in a BPO a Good Move for Freshers?

Being Sakshi
I would like to ask all HR professionals and other members for their opinion and advice regarding HR in the BPO industry. I have completed my MBA with an HR specialization, but not a single company came for HR. So now, I am searching on my own, and from one of the BPOs, I am getting an offer.

Questions About HR in the BPO Industry

I have three questions in mind:

• **First**, should a fresher go for a BPO? Because domestic BPOs have less professionalism in terms of etiquette and communication. Is there any growth?

• **Second**, they are offering me an HR role in their back-office sector in terms of handling salary and other tasks, assisting managers, etc., except recruitment. Will this role help me in the future to secure an HR Generalist role?

• **Lastly**, can we switch from the BPO industry to another industry after a few years?

I am very confused about it and really need your valuable feedback.

I would like to first answer your last question: can we switch from the BPO industry to another industry after a few years?

Yes, you can. I am also from the BPO industry. Today, I am working with an IT firm. I have learned a lot in BPO as well.

HR Role in Back-Office Sector

Secondly, they are offering me an HR role in their back-office sector in terms of handling salary and other tasks, helping managers, etc., except recruitment. So, will this role help me in the future to get an HR Generalist role?

Yes, it will certainly help you in getting into an HR Generalist role, but you have to work not only hard but also smart. You have to prove yourself in this competitive field.

Should a Fresher Opt for a BPO?

Firstly, should a fresher opt for a BPO? Because domestic BPOs have less professionalism in terms of etiquette and communication. Is there any growth?

Please go ahead and take up a job in a BPO if you are offered one. In your career, you may aspire to work with Fortune 500+ companies, and you will get there. To reach that level, you have to start somewhere, so why not in a BPO? Experience comes only with exposure. If you are concerned about professionalism, ensure that you do not misbehave and conduct yourself professionally to understand your duties.

Hope this helps!!!

All the best!!!
