Is It Fair to Change Long-Standing Medical Leave and ESI Policies in Schools?

somnath.aaryan
I am working as an Admin, HR, and IT Manager in a reputed school in Kolkata. Before my joining, the school service rule was in force with 14 days of CL and 15 days of ML, following all statutory norms, including ESI for all confirmed teachers and non-teaching staff. As an HR person for the last two years, I have tried my best to maintain the HR system in an ethical manner. However, a newly joined COO is dissatisfied with continuing 15 days of medical leave and ESI for whoever is eligible together. My point is, would it be a fair idea to discontinue a prevailing system? Please share your opinion in this regard.

An insured person under ESI is eligible to receive the relevant benefits as provided in the scheme. Then, what is the need for ML? ML is appropriate for persons not eligible under ESI.

From the date of commencement of the first benefit period of the employee in ESI, you can convert 15 days of ML into half-pay ML. Please refer to regulation 97.
