Punjab Government Wage Increase Notification
Dear Friends, this is to bring to your attention that the Punjab Government has recently increased the minimum rates of wages effective from 01.09.2013 for 71 Scheduled Employments. The wage hike for monthly-rated employees is Rs. 552.75, for daily-rated employees is Rs. 21.44, and for hourly workers is Rs. 2.68.
The purpose of this increment is to offset the rising cost of living. The minimum wage rates are tied to the Consumer Price Index Numbers (State Series 1987 - 100). Wage adjustments are carried out every six months based on the average CPI numbers published by the Punjab Government.
Details of the enhanced/adjusted minimum wage rates for monthly-rated, daily-rated, and hourly-rated employees across various categories are provided in the attachment.
It's important to note that certain clauses in the main notification dated 15.11.2012 issued under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, are currently being contested through two separate writ petitions. The final arguments are scheduled for 26.09.2013.
