Feeling Stuck in HR After Switching to a Fitness Studio? Seeking Advice on Career Path Choices

Parimala mahalingam
I worked as an HR Executive in the BPO and Infrastructure Development industries. However, I have now transitioned to a Fitness studio as an HR Executive, which is similar to a Fitness center. I am beginning to feel that I may have chosen the wrong path for developing my career in HR. Could you please provide your insights on whether my industry switch was a correct decision or not?

HR professionals are in all industries. In terms of selection, it's your own choice. Personally, I feel in the manufacturing line, one learns all aspects of HR. My suggestion is you try to join some manufacturing industry where you can learn various aspects of HR.

What matters is the level of the company, the size of the company, your role, compensation, exposure to learning, and finally, career growth. If you realize that you are moving downwards in your career by continuing your current job and it is your mistake, then it is better to leave and look for an opportunity where you can gain exposure to learning, experience professional growth, and ultimately achieve a higher level of satisfaction.

There are two aspects to your question. Whether your priority is job profile or monetary advantage, you need to compromise on one at the cost of the other. If you feel that better job satisfaction is important, then it's better to look for other opportunities. However, do keep in mind the current market situation where recruitment is on hold everywhere.

I am also one of those who will first consider roles and responsibilities.

Industry selection is your choice, but before joining the new organization, you have to be clear about the job profile. At the executive level, you should prioritize learning more and more.
