Regarding I-card Register

jasmin_mlw
Hello to all HR professional,
The company which I have joined does not maintain I-card register, so i made a proposal to management to maintain it to avoid any legal issue. So now whether i should start to maintain it with new joinee or i should start it to maintain from very first employee who might has been left the organisation.
Supposes, if i have to maintain it from very first employee, then what to do first.
Nainz
what is an I card register?
What legal hassles are you preempting?
if you have to start with the active employees first and i am not sure how you would do it for employees who have left

Dear member if u dont know what is Icard register then no need to give reply dear.
I seem i have been insulted by yr reply.

Well, if you want to process this then you must issue a unique ID card to all employees from existing to new joinees and do not need to issue for the employees who already left however you can assign some specific ID number to them for your reference.

Dear friends, i am asking about the register which is maintained in every industrial establishment which includes photo id of employee, his/her date of birth, his/her date of joining, his/her signature and signature of authorised person.
Nainz
Hi Jasmin,
I am well aware of the I card, but am not sure what exactly are you referring to, please understand that each org has a different verbiage and does not really follow the book.
Am surprised that you are insulted as I asked questions under what industrial establishment are you referring to - is it Manufacturing/ services? hence the questions I asked. as certain organization have an exemption under SEZ to maintain such registers?
what system do you carry in the organization that you are aware that an employee belongs to the Org. For example; organizations have either employee ID and security ID separately.

Dear Nainz,
Thanks for yr reply. I am in diamond manufacturing industry. And I am well aware of the i card which each employee is having.Well, what I am asking is to maintain the register with photo of the employee along with his/her date of birth and date of joining with his/her signature. And this register is maintained by HR department. So my confusion is that I have joined this company before 15 days and before my joining this company does not maintain any Icard register. So I have been told to maintain the same with immediate effect. So from where i should start. Should i start it to maintain from very first employee who might has been left the organisation or should I start with my name first in the register.

Hi Jasmin ,
Please let me know its a company maintained register or are you referring some Govt/CLA/Labour law defined register ?
If it's company maintained register you can start it with existing employees, there would be no legal issues. And if it is some kind of Govt defined register under Factories Act or CLA Act then you have to maintain from beginning. At least you should cover last two years data, am sure company does have left employees data in old records. You can give serial number accordingly or as per employee codes.

Hi,
since you are starting from the beginning, you should start a register with the current employee. for employee who have left, maintain a separate register for the earlier lot.
also you may want to check that if by law there is any prescribed format.

My my
For someone who is asking for help, you are very touchy
Someone asks for a clarification as to what the register is and which legal hassle you are avoiding, and you insult him with your reply.
My company does legal compliance audit for about 100 factories around the country
And I have not seen anything called the I-card register.
So please englighten me as to which act and which section / rule this register comes under and what is the legal risk that its non maintenance entails
