Transitioning to Larger Companies: How to Handle Missing Form 16 and Tax Queries?

vivnambiar
Hello Team, I work for a startup company in a contract role. My salary depends on the number of billing hours or the projects I receive and complete. My salary is often paid by cheque, roughly above 5 lakhs per annum. I haven't filed any tax papers, and I haven't received a Form 16 for the years 2012 and 2013. The last Form 16 I have is dated 2011.

Transitioning to Larger Organizations

Now, I'm looking to transition to larger organizations. When the question arises about Form 16, taxes, or salary breakdowns from potential employers, what would be my response?

Thanks,
Viv

If the company doesn't offer you Form 16 and does not deduct any tax from your salary, then you must submit an IT return. You can show this to the company you are applying to, along with income proof. Simply inform the HR that in your previous company, they didn't provide Form 16, and you received the salary through a cheque without any deductions or payslip.
