Living in Dubai on 11,000 AED: Can a Family of Three Make Ends Meet?

Is 11,000 AED Per Month Enough in Dubai for a Family of Three?

One of Dubai's companies has offered me 11,000 AED per month, plus medical benefits and an air ticket per year. I have to manage accommodation and transport on my own. Can anyone please guide me on how much saving will be possible with this salary? Also, they have mentioned that the company is in a free zone. What is the benefit of it?

Thanks in advance.

I just checked the average cost of living from this link http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living...tes&city=Dubai. It seems like 11,000 AED per month is less.

Hi Amar, the salary offered is not bad. Since you don't have UAE experience, this offer, to me, is very good. The good thing about a free zone is that you can move to another company anytime without facing a ban. This means that you can come to Dubai, get some experience, and then if you are not happy, you can move on to another company.

11,000 AED is okay. You can save 30%.

AED 11,000 is good. Is the company not providing accommodation? Usually, companies do provide that. Check if they can provide it. If not, you have to shell out rent, normally AED 2,000 to 3,000/- for a studio flat.

Around AED 3,000/- would be other expenses. I agree with Pon1965 that you can save 30%.

It is good for you that the company is in a free zone, as in case you wish to change the company, there won't be any ban on you. So, you are free to look for another company if you are not happy with the current company in 6 to 8 months down the line. However, I do mention it is good to continue with the same company for the year to avail benefits like an air ticket and annual vacation.

On another note, before making the decision, you have to consider the school expenses of your kid. I am not sure about that part. Other fellow members can guide.

Lastly, I would like to close with a famous quote by Albert Einstein: "The measure of intelligence is the ability to change."

11,000 AED is pretty good. If you are willing to commute a little bit more, then you can take up housing in Sharjah, which would be quite affordable. Dubai is well connected through the recently launched MRT, and you could use it for commuting. Since you are in a Free Zone, you can always find another job once you move to Dubai, as most employers prefer those who are already based in Dubai.

Dear AMAR,

11000 AED is a very good package. You can manage all your expenses, including food and everything, since you do not have UAE experience. My suggestion is to go ahead and join that job so that the more experience you gain in the UAE, the more you will earn.

It is a wonderful opportunity you have. All the very best!
