Feeling Lost Without an Experience Certificate: What Should I Do Next?

nayandeep
Hi all,

I have been working in a software company called Skytech Solutions in Kolkata for the last 3 years and 2 months. My last day there was on 21-Sep-07. They have provided me with a release letter, but no experience certificate was included. The release letter also does not mention any experience. Although these two letters have been given to others, I have not received them. I was informed by them that it is not mandatory to provide an experience certificate to everyone. They have mentioned that having my joining letter should suffice without any issues.

I am feeling completely disheartened and unsure of what to do because everyone is suggesting that every company requires both a release letter and an experience certificate. I seek guidance on the next steps to take. I would be extremely grateful to anyone who can offer assistance. Please reply.

Dear Nayan,

Providing an Experience Letter with a Relieving Letter is the organization's duty. As you have worked there, they must provide you with the details of how long you were associated with them. You just need to make a request to them, stating that it is required for your further association with another company.

If they do not comply, check whether the date of relieving is mentioned in the relieving letter. If it is, then you don't need to worry much, as the Date of Joining you have is mentioned in your Appointment letter.

Regards,

Amit Seth.

Dear Nayan,

Providing an Experience Letter along with the Relieving Letter is the organization's duty. Since you have worked there, they must provide you with details of how long you were associated with them. Simply request from them that it is required for your future association with another company. If they fail to do so, check whether the date of relieving is mentioned in the relieving letter. If it is there, then you don't need to worry much, as your Date of Joining (DOJ) is included in your Appointment letter.

Thank you very much, sir. But sir, I have one query. Even if I have the joining letter and the release letter with the releasing date in it, will it be possible that other companies may ask if there is no guarantee that I had no break in between that period? I have this concern within me. Please reply when you have time.

Hi Nayan,

In my perception, they won't ask for the same because by looking at both, one must get ensured with the genuine problem. But do try to get the experience certificate also, if possible.

Sir,

Today I talked with the HR, and they again said that they cannot give in writing that I worked from this date to that date in this designation. When I asked for the reason, he said they have such instructions. Do you think it will be better if I take legal action against them? Once again, thanks a lot for your valuable advice.

Actually, it is the duty of any company to provide a relieving and experience letter to their exiting employee. Anyhow, I think don't go for legal steps but ask your employer why they have given these letters to others. What is the difference in doing that.

Hi,

I understand completely what you are going through, but I feel you should talk to your senior and inform them that the present organization has requested an experience letter. If, even after polite discussions, this does not work, you should speak with the main head of the office, such as the Managing Director or whoever is appropriate, and explain your predicament. I am sure you will receive the justice you seek.

There is absolutely no sense in going to court as you will become tired by then, so relax and be patient.

Yes, I asked my Manager to look into it and she said she will, but in case nothing happens, I will send an email to the VP to request the same.
