Considering SAP Training to Boost HR Career Amid Industry Slowdown – Is It Worth the Investment?

kpv007
Dear Colleagues,

I am working at an Executive HR level in an infrastructure company in Mumbai, and as known to all, it's not a very promising industry now due to the industry slowdown. I am planning to go for SAP training, but I am not very sure how much value addition it will bring to my career and whether it will help me enter another industry with an increase in designation and pay.

It is also seen that such courses are of less duration and very high cost, so recovery is also a concern.

Please share your experiences and thoughts.

Regards,
Kunal

To answer your query, yes, these certifications can help you land a good job, provided you have completed a few project implementations in the same field. You should consider the cost associated with the program and also inquire about the Institute's placement program.

Whenever you plan to take this course, ensure that you are enrolled through a German server. Please refer to the SAP website for more information.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

Cheers,
Shweta

I am pursuing an MBA and currently undertaking SAP. How much will this help my career?

Much depends on the institute you are studying at. Please refer to my reply to Kunal. If you are studying at an institute associated with SAP, it will definitely help you in securing a good job as a fresher.

After completing SAP, any company will expect you to be a master of the software and know it inside out. Although they may not ask for project implementation since you are a fresher, since you are keen to launch your career in the IT industry, try to secure an internship in one of them. Once you have even a bit of practical knowledge, any company will consider your candidature.

Alternatively, you can search on job sites to see what job descriptions are posted for the profile you are looking for and start preparing accordingly.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Shweta

Value of SAP HR in HR Operations

Doing SAP HR will add value if you are into HR operations. Later on, depending on how many projects you have implemented, you may become a Functional Consultant.

SAP HR and Core & Strategic HR

However, SAP HR is not a prerequisite if you are looking into Core & strategic HR. It is just another tool in the hands of HR leaders to improve HR capability and delivery.

Implementation Areas of SAP HR

Further, SAP HR is mostly implemented to maintain the employee life cycle, PMS, compensation, and payroll. It is not used much for Learning & Development and recruitment activities. For such activities, PeopleSoft is a better option.

A certification in SAP will surely add value to your career in HR and will open doors to large organizations using SAP for their HR processes.
