Seeking Career Growth in HR: What Steps or Studies Can Boost My Path?

I pursued my BE (CSE) in 2011. After that, I worked for a few months in the marketing field. Now, I am working as an HR & Placement Coordinator in a consultancy. I wish to excel in this field. I need suggestions on what I can do for my career growth. Are there any exams or higher studies that can help advance my career? Please provide me with your suggestions.

If you want to enter the field of HR, you need to qualify yourself in both academics and professional life. If you have the time and money, please make yourself available for a full-time MBA; otherwise, it's better to go for a part-time MBA. Please don't opt for distance learning mode because your learning will be limited. Read a lot of articles, spend time understanding people and their attitudes. Visit sites like Cite HR and read about others' experiences. Spend time getting to know people, their quality of life, their likes and dislikes, and how you can adapt to critical situations. HR is essentially a life science. This will be your first step towards achieving your career goal.

In general, MSW focuses on HR from a holistic human approach, and an MBA focuses on a strategic business approach. It is your choice to go for an MBA (HR) or an MSW. If you are interested in PM/IR/Labour Welfare/Labor Laws/Corporate Communication, you can surely opt for MSW. If you are interested in Recruitment/Training & Development/Change Management/Performance Appraisal/Employee Engagement/Resource Allocation, then you can go for an MBA (HR).

As an HR professional, you should make one point clear: each field mentioned above is broad, and to start with, you cannot master all of them. It takes years, and even then, you may or may not have the chance to enter into all these areas.

I would suggest entering the field of MBA in HR because nowadays there are plenty of opportunities for HR professionals. I will explain the difference between the fields of MBA (HR) and MSW. These two fields are distinct areas. MBA is entirely based on business, whereas MSW focuses on social work.
