How Can We Cut Our Office Electricity Bill in Half? Seeking Practical Tips

Rajkumar Ranaware
Hi,

I am Rajkumar, working as a Trainee-HR. My senior manager has given me an assignment. The office electric bill until March was 40,000, and now it's almost 80,000. He has asked me to find ways to save electricity during office hours. Additionally, he wants me to prepare a PowerPoint presentation on "Save energy."

Could you please suggest ways to save electricity or reduce the electricity bill?

Thank you.

Dear Rajkumar,

The idea that energy can only be saved during office hours is wrong. Actually, you can save a lot more during non-working hours as well.

Anyway, here are some tips to save energy:

1. Switch off all PCs, monitors, and printers after closing hours. Monitors and printers consume energy even if they are not in use.

2. Replace all window ACs with split ACs. Set the AC temperature around 20-22 degrees, not lower than that. Switch off the system during the night.

3. Change to CFLs for areas where lighting is used continuously, such as corridors and reception, for a minimum of 4-5 hours.

4. Use solar lights for outside areas such as walkways and gardens.

5. Keep lighting to a minimum during the night.

6. Regularly clean the air dryer filter element in the toilet.

During working hours, it is worth training employees in energy-saving practices such as:

a) Switching off lights when not necessary.

b) Turning off monitors/PCs when leaving for lunch, meetings, or outside the office.

c) Not setting the AC temperature below 20 degrees.

All the best,

Regards,

Rajeev
