Casual Leave Calculation

If an employee has Sunday as their weekly day off and takes Saturday and Monday as casual leave, how many days of casual leave should be counted? This count should include Sunday and exclude Sunday.

Definition of Casual Leave (CL)

What is the definition of CL as per your company policy? It can be taken for personal work, social commitments, or other reasons, so it should be counted as 2 days excluding the Weekly Off.

Please refer to your company's Leave Policy if you have any questions about the sandwich Leave policy.

If anyone takes CL on Saturday and Monday, then only two leaves should be counted, and Sunday will remain the week off. It should not be treated as leave. Mind it, leave is only granted against working days, not against week-offs and holidays.

Casual Leave will be based upon your policy. If your policy states that intervening holidays and weekends are included, then it will count for 3 days. If they are excluded, it will be 2 days. Go through your leave policy. If such a clause is not there, you may insert it in line with the current practice. Please keep in mind to follow the current practice, or it may have adverse implications.

One more thing to consider is whether it is for unionized employees or non-unionized employees. If it is for unionized employees, please check for any such clause in settlements.

Most companies, establishments, and contractors count holidays as leave if they fall between two working days. In the case of leave with a prefix or suffix of a working day, holidays are not counted.

Well, if your leave policies follow the sandwich rule, then in that particular case, a total of 3 leaves will be counted for you.
