Professional Tax Deduction: Net or Gross Salary?

I have one confusion: Is PT deducted from the NET Salary or Gross Salary? I am really very confused and now don't know what to do.

There is one case I would like to share with you all. If a person is receiving a salary of 12,000, then PT will be 200. However, if that person is absent for 15 days, then their salary will become less than 6,000. According to the PT slab, you cannot deduct PT from a salary lower than 5,999 for an employee. So, I request all of you, what should be done? This is a real case in our organization this month, and I am newly joined, which is why I have this confusion. Please help remove my confusion.

Thank you.

PT will be deducted from the gross salary payable for each month. If the amount is less than the applicable slab of PT, the deduction will be applicable for that month.

As seniors advised, the PT is applicable on the gross salary of that particular month. If the employee whose salary is 12,000 per month and the salary earned for a specific month is Rs. 6,000, then the applicable PT will be 6,000 to 8,999, which is Rs. 80 in Gujarat State, as you are from Rajkot. Hope this clarifies your query.

So, does that mean PT will be counted on the net paid amount? It clearly indicates that PT should be deducted after all deductions, right?
