How Can I Explain Frequent Job Changes in Interviews Without Hurting My Chances?

Sharad Pant
Since 14 years, I have been working in the development sector with NGOs. Mostly, in NGOs, the job is available on a project basis. Most project durations range from 2 to 5 years. I have worked on 1-year or 2-year projects, and when it is observed that the organization has no capacity to provide me with a second project to continue my job, I leave the organization. Even in one or two places, I failed to manage with the management, and I left the organization. This entire situation is now greatly affecting my CV. In 14 years, I have worked with 9 organizations.

Now, when I face an interview, the interviewer asks me why I frequently change organizations, whether I like to work on a short-term basis, or if I am a rigid person who can't manage, or if I am not good enough in my job. I am fed up with answering this question during my interviews; it is even creating a negative impact on the interviewer. I am trying to convince the interviewer that now, being in the middle of my age, I want a stable job.

You have the answer in the question you have put across: "Now I am in the middle of my age, so in this situation, I want a stable job." So just be truthful, and you will get the job. Don't ever give up.
