How Do We Register for Professional Tax in Different States to Avoid Overpayment?

Could I get information on how to register for Professional Tax (PT) in different states? Our headquarters are in Bangalore, and we have employees working in various parts of India. Until January 2013, we deducted and paid PT based on the Bangalore slab for all employees, regardless of their work location. However, we recently discovered through CiteHR that this approach was incorrect as each state has its own PT slab, leading to employees paying more than required.

Could you please guide us on the procedure for registering in other states or recommend consultants who can assist us with this process?

It is essential for us to address this promptly as there have been pending remittances since January.

Registration/enrollment under Professional Tax (PTax) in every state, wherever it is applicable as per state law, needs to be handled carefully. Your liability starts from the date you commence your business activity in such a state. You cannot take the stand that you paid the tax in Bangalore concerning employees working in other states.

Yes, I'm trying to get the registration in the respective states, just figuring out the means of doing the same. However, I wanted to confirm if they were on deputation at my client's place, do they still have to have their PT for the respective states?
