Can Current Employees Withdraw Their PF Amount? Seeking Clarity on This Issue

Just want to know if a current employee working in an organization can withdraw his/her PF amount. Please let us know.

Yes, a current employee can withdraw the PF amount, but to some extent. For that, there is Form 31 for the application of advance. By filling out this form, you can take out some money from your PF account. You have to provide a reason and proof, such as for the purchase of a plot or for a marriage. This way, you can withdraw the PF amount.

Non-Refundable Advances for PF Members

Just adding value to Sach001's query, a member of PF may avail the following non-refundable advances:

1. For the purchase of a dwelling house;
2. For the construction of a house;
3. For additions, alterations, or improvements to a house owned by the member or his/her spouse;
4. In case of a lockout or reasons other than a strike;
5. In case of non-receipt of wages for two months;
6. In case of illness affecting the member or his/her family member;
7. In case of the member's marriage, or the marriage of his/her son, daughter, brother, or sister; and for some more reasons subject to certain conditions and submission of documentary proof.

It is not possible to withdraw 100% of your contribution. However, for purposes such as marriage or children's marriages, you are eligible to make a withdrawal. Additionally, for house construction, you can withdraw after completing 7 years of service. In this case, you can withdraw up to 95% of your PF contributions without the need for repayment.

EPF Scheme Withdrawal for House Construction

Paragraph 68 of the EPF Scheme discusses the withdrawal of EPF amounts on various grounds. To be eligible for withdrawal benefits for house construction purposes, one needs to have completed 5 years of service with the current employer as per sub-paragraph 3(a)(i) of 68B.

Yes, it is legal in some cases for an employee who has been working for years to withdraw a part of their Provident Fund (PF). In such a situation, the employee can submit an application with a proper reason for withdrawing the PF. After approval, he/she can withdraw the amount from their PF.
