Lot of activities which can be done under employment engagement initiatives, for eg:
• Strengthen formal communication channels in your co - You may look at starting communication sessions of Senior Management with employees to provide them regular updates on business front, challenges and opportunities. This could be a platform for SMT to interact with employees , share and know their suggestions/issues. Researches show that employees in companies with better communication practices are highly engaged. However, this will require your Senior Team’s presence
• Provide opportunities for informal interaction and bonding to employees – Could be through :
- Celebrations in office around b’days, festivals,
- Taking the team out for lunch, picnics, movies etc on special occasion – quarterly results, cracking a new deal/agreement etc
- Organise something like Happy Hours wherein employees can gather, interact, play games etc. You could drive this
- Identify people who are generally sporty and willing to participate and lead events – champions. Look at the possibility of having people with similar interests – could be sports, music, dance, photography etc. Enable them to plan activities around these interests, encourage the employees to participate. Few such events can be organised by you and few by the champions
Apart from these, clarity on role and goals, clear communication, transparency, effective leadership at work place, efforts towards people development also help in increasing employee engagement. As HR professional, you may look at enhancing few of these at your workplace.
