Apprenticeship - Apprenticeship Act

Labour Department is not the appropriate authority under the Apprentice Act. There are state Apprentice Advisers under the Department of Vocational Training and Education meant for parting training to ITIs and other designated trades and Board of Apprentice Training with Four Regional Boards (South, West, North, East) under the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. The latter takes care of Graduate and Diploma apprenticeship programmes.

The Officer for States program is Apprentice Adviser at District level. You can contact him for details. It is not that you can engage any number of apprentices but there is a proportion of apprentices to be engaged to regular workmen and the number will also depend on the facilities available to provide training to them. The stipend is fixed by the central government and the rules and conditions of their service should be as per Apprentice Act. As such apprentices are not expected to do be engaged during night, they should not be asked to do over time and no disciplinary action can be taken against them without intimating the Apprentice Adviser.

Pl read Apprentices Act and its rules.The trades,minimum qualifications,period of training,stipend,returns,records to be maintained,manner of claiming portion of stipend from govt ,labour laws applicable to apprentices,physical standards etc are given in it.
