Mehak M
Hi All, I am seeking advice from members of Cite HR. I have a total of 9 years of experience in sales, with the majority of it in the recruitment industry. I have a good understanding of recruitment and now wish to transition from sales to HR. Kindly advise.

Career Transition: Sales to HR

First of all, I want to clarify one thing: HR and Sales profiles are completely different. If you have good experience in recruitment, you should start a recruitment and talent acquisition firm, which will give you more earning potential and time for self-development. Alternatively, if you choose to pursue a career in HR, you will need to work for another 3-5 years to achieve a good remuneration package.

Think carefully before you start—your career, your plan.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have been thinking about this aspect as well, but as of now, the market is slow, and there are a number of consultancies in the market. So, would it be right to go into this field as of now?

I would recommend doing what your heart says and what you enjoy doing more. I personally moved from Sales to HR, and I am loving it!!

Hi Meenu, to start, you can approach an HR consultancy firm that requires an Internal HR Executive. Since you are familiar with the industry, this opportunity will allow you to learn and implement the complete HR spectrum. You may also consider asking your current firm to offer you an HR role.

That's my advice.

Good Luck!
