Navigating Accommodation Allowance Requests: How to Handle Changes After Marriage in HR?

qariaboz
I have a situation and I need some help. I am working in the HR department. Some of the staff members come on accommodation provided by the company contract. After a while, when they get married, they start asking for accommodation allowance. Is there a legal way to not give them the accommodation allowance, or to give the allowance to certain people?

Thanks for your help.

What does CTC stand for, and what do you mean by earning heads? The situation is as follows: at the company, we offer two kinds of accommodation. The first type is for single males, either in a labor camp if they are laborers or shared accommodation for junior staff.

If a staff member is married, it can be arranged before they arrive that the offer should include either accommodation or HRA. The issue arises with junior staff who join on an offer letter stating that the company will provide shared accommodation. Then, when they get married, they start asking for accommodation allowance. I am trying to control this issue. Any suggestions?

CTC stands for Total Cost to Company, which includes monthly, quarterly, and annual components, as well as retirement benefits. You might consider adding a condition in the offer letter for unmarried individuals: after getting married, the accommodation allowance will be included in the House Rent Allowance (HRA) and will be canceled once they get married.

This is my opinion. Please seek an expert view.

Thanks,
