Is Paid Maternity Leave Mandatory for Small Firms? Seeking Clarity on Legal Obligations

Hi, I would like to know whether it's compulsory to pay maternity leave, as one of our clients is a very small firm.

Application of the MB Act

As per Section 2 of the MB Act, it applies to factories (10 or more workers) and to establishments where 10 or more persons are employed, unless the state government declares otherwise. The Kerala Government has extended the Act to shops and commercial establishments regardless of the number of employees. Please check whether your state has reduced the criteria of the number of employees.
