Extended Office Hours Without Overtime Pay: How Should I Address This with Management?

raovikas123@gmail.com
I am working in a manufacturing company in the position of HR Executive. Our office hours were originally from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. However, the management has recently extended the office timings from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM without providing any overtime pay for the additional hours worked. Could you please advise me on what steps I should take in this situation?

Thank you.

In any factory, an employer may require a maximum of 54 hours of work in a week, out of which six hours would be considered as overtime. Generally, an employer may not demand work for over 48 hours in a week in any factory, shop, or commercial establishment in Delhi. Please refer to Section 51 and 54 of the Delhi Factories Rules, 1950, which state the following:

Hours of Work (Adults): Sections 51 and 54

"No adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in a factory for more than 48 hours in any week and for more than 9 hours in any day. With the previous approval of the Chief Inspector, the daily maximum specified in Sec. 51 may be exceeded to facilitate the change of shifts."

Warm regards,
