Transitioning to HR: Can My MBA in Operations Management Open Doors?

Hi Seniors, I am currently pursuing my MBA in Operations Management through distance education and have been working in the background screening industry for almost 2 years now. I am now interested in transitioning to a job in HR. Can I secure a position in HR with a degree in MBA Operations Management? I am looking forward to a positive response.

I will not discuss why you opted for an MBA in Operations and why you are willing to switch to HR. To anyone, it is not simply digestible. However, for core industries where the competence matrix is predefined for various specializations such as HR, Marketing, etc., they can't accept an MBA Operations profile as an option for MBA HR. Nevertheless, if you are serious about a career in HR, start searching for a job where you can work in the HR department, learn about HR functions, and gain practical knowledge related to HR topics and laws. In the meantime, you can also pursue a diploma in HR management to support your HR experience. If possible, consider specializing in HR for the best and most desired career in HR.

My suggestion is that you should take up a project on 'Efficiency Improvement Through Automation of HR Operations' during your MBA program. In addition to introducing you to HR terminology and various aspects of HR operations, you will get an opportunity to understand how business output is correlated to manpower efficiency.

Once you get such exposure, you will be a valuable resource for any organization.
