Feeling Stuck After Resignation: How to Handle No Response from Head Office?

I submitted my resignation on 16/4/2013 but still have not received a reply from my head office. What can I do in this matter? They are mentally harassing me to continue the job. Please advise on how to proceed.

The further proceeding depends on the separation policy of your company. If you can tell us what it states, we might be able to help further. How long is your notice period? Did you follow up with your HR regarding your resignation? Drop a mail from your company ID and mark a CC to your personal email ID so that you can have proof of contact made. Ask the person about the reason for the delay in the acceptance of the resignation.

Further to Ankita's suggestion, I'd like to add that keeping in constant communication with Human Resources is essential. An email follow-up is a great idea. Additionally, why don't you try sending out the resignation letter with a reminder to the Head Office through Registered Post with AD? This method saves a lot of stress as you will receive an acknowledgment. If you haven't received any response, a second reminder along with the Registered Post Acknowledgment Delivery (RPAD) copy attached can be submitted to HR for necessary action.

If none of the above options are available in terms of your contract—such as the notice period clause not being mentioned or no offer letter—then you can take the following steps:

- Send a copy of your resignation by registered post.
- Email it.
- Provide a hard copy to your line manager or HR.

Ask them to acknowledge receipt of your resignation. If they do not accept it, you can request an acceptance repeatedly and escalate the issue if necessary.

1. Resend the resignation email to your Reporting Boss and HR Manager.
2. Discuss with your Reporting Boss and HR Manager about the resignation.
3. Inform them that the 15-day notice period has already been completed. Verify whether you are supposed to complete a 15-day or 30-day notice period.
4. Make sure to keep a copy of the email when sending the resignation to your Boss. Also, cc a copy to your personal email ID.

Follow-Up on Resignation Email

Please ensure to keep continuous follow-up with a reminder tag on your initial email. Remember always to forward your email with the attachment (Resignation) and clearly mention how long you have been awaiting a reply. Copy your personal email ID and HR personnel when sending the communication.

You wait for 30 days from the submission of your resignation. After that period, you quit your job with a reminder letter to management.

Dear Niyal, all the above suggestions are good; however, I would suggest you check for the escalation metrics in your organization. I still have a few doubts about your query, such as:

1. What type of company is it, e.g., IT, Telecom, etc.?
2. Is there any written process for leaving the company?

It is very important to get the resignation acceptance and relieving letter at the time of leaving any job. It helps in the future when you aim for advancement in your career path. If no one is helping, then you should consider highlighting your case to the COO or CEO level.

Notice Pay or Notice Period

Give either notice pay or notice to the company with your resignation. In this circumstance, it will be effective only after the expiry of the notice period.
