Transitioning from Recruitment to Core HR: What Training and Steps Should I Take?

AS Priyadarshini
Hi all, I have 2.6 years of experience in the recruitment process, and I am interested in seeking a career in Core HR. I don't have any knowledge of core HR-related activities. I am ready to undergo any training to get an opportunity in Core HR. I request all HR professionals to guide me on how I can make a start and what courses I can attend to help me begin my career in Core HR.

Changing careers from recruitment to Core HR is not easy, but you should put a lot of effort into learning and being competitive with others who have practical experience. I don't think training institutes will provide you with the necessary knowledge. It is better to seek advice from experienced professionals and continue learning about all core HR topics through discussions.

In this blog, you will find ample materials to learn from and gain exposure.

Transitioning from Recruitment to Core HR

A shift from recruitment to an out-and-out Core HR is tough, though not impossible, since a lot depends on how you fare in the interview to meet their expectations. Even then, you will most likely be treated as a fresher. You need to be ready for this situation. Some suggestions in this regard are:

1. Try for a profile that is a mix of recruitment and HR activities, as the chances of you being selected for such roles are easier than for core HR roles.

2. After joining a job, take the initiative to learn as much as possible about core HR with the help of professionals there.

3. In the meantime, brush up on your conceptual understanding of HR functions like performance management, competency mapping, O.D. activities, and read important labor laws (Bare Acts) like I.D. Act, P.F., ESI, Gratuity, Standing Orders Act, and see how these Acts are implemented in your organization.

4. If possible, acquire some short-term certification in practical HR as I do not discount any knowledge.

5. Spend some time in such a role.

6. Structure your CV to reflect the newly acquired skills.

7. And then try for core HR.

It is said that strong people have 'will,' and others have only wishes. So do not merely wish but will it to get it.

All the best.
