Understanding Sandwich Leave Policy: Will My Weekends Count as Leave?

mainak.patel
I am working in an engineering company. We are entitled to two days off weekly, Saturday and Sunday (only on the second and fourth Saturdays). If I have applied for Monday to Friday as PL (Privilege Leave), will my Sunday, Saturday, and Sunday be counted as leave? Please help me as soon as possible. I am awaiting your guidance/help.

Best Regards,

If your establishment is covered under the Factories Act 1948, no holidays will be clubbed with the leave period. Even if your leave policy is not governed by the Factories Act, holidays occurring at the beginning and at the end of the leave period are excluded from the leave period.

In the given case, since Saturday/Sunday are at the end of the leave period, there is no way they can be counted as leaves. However, if you avail Sick Leave (SL) from Friday to Monday, then Saturday/Sunday are also counted.

Firstly, you need to check with your HR team on the leave policy. Secondly, this type of leave is called sandwich leave. In this scenario, if an employee tries to take leave on Friday and Monday, then Saturday and Sunday are also counted as leave. If you have leave balance, you can apply from Friday to Monday.
