Feeling Stuck in a Toxic Work Environment: Should I Return to My Old Job Despite Its Downsides?

I am newly joined in a company as a Sr. Engineer. The company's brand name is good, but internally, the work culture and environment are bad. At the time of joining, I did not inquire about the company, and now I am suffering a lot.

Previously, I worked as a supervisor in another company, where the brand name and working environment were good. Now, I am thinking of going back to the old company. Is it right or wrong?

My Experience

I have 8 years of experience. If I go back to the old company, they will only offer me a supervisor position with a salary of Rs. 21,500/-. It is near my home, but it is a battery company, and due to lead pollution, there are some health problems. I resigned from this company, but my relieving letter and PF amount have not yet been cleared. I resigned only 2 months ago. If I go back, will the HR personnel agree?

I am not able to understand—you resigned two months ago, although your notice period is one month. Are you still with the company? If you are still with the company, you should track where your resignation letter has gone. You should speak to HR. In my opinion, you shouldn't resign at this point and probably search for a job in another organization (as such options are open).

Health vs. Work Culture: Deciding Job Location

I think you would agree that health problems should take precedence over work culture issues when deciding on a job location.

You have been with this company for less than two months. Are you sure your suffering is due to a bad work culture and not because you left your 'comfort zone'?

In my opinion, two months is not enough time to comment on the work culture. Office politics and work culture issues are common in our industries. If your previous job did not have them, you were lucky.

But do you think you would find the same work culture after returning to a job you quit a couple of months ago? Re-evaluate the reasons why you left your old job.

And how was the work culture good in your previous organization if you still haven't received the relieving letter two months after leaving?

You should view this new job as a new experience and try to cope and learn from it. Good things can come from any level in the organization, and maybe with your experience from your previous job, you could introduce some positive work culture to your new company.

Also, consider looking beyond these two companies for other opportunities. Going back to your old job might not help as much as staying, learning, and then moving on to a better job.

As you are receiving a higher salary in this new job with a better title, it could be a good stepping stone for you when moving forward.
