Torn Between HR and Marketing for My MBA: Seeking Career Advice from the Community

Amey Neswankar
Hello all, I have been working as a graphic designer for the past 4 years and will be completing my graduation this year in May. I am planning to pursue an MBA in HR management. Currently, I am working in sales and marketing, and my friends and co-workers are suggesting that I consider an MBA in marketing. However, I feel that I would not be as comfortable and flexible in marketing as I would be in HR, where I can utilize my efficiency and qualities.

Please advise me on what would be the best decision for my career.

I am of the opinion that career-oriented education decisions must be taken in line with your personal interest. Having worked as a graphic designer, what strikes me is why you are not progressing further in the design field. Why don't you give it a try and explore that path?

Besides, remember, marketing does not always mean a "street job under the sun." With the world today accessible on your desktop, one can still engage in marketing with much ease. Concept marketing would be a perfect match for your existing job. There is a huge demand in the telecom industry, film industry, animation, corporate PR, advertising, and many more.

Remember, corporate growth with higher positions and remuneration is faster in marketing. Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
