Points To Be Covered Against Dress Code Policy

Anupamma
Hi everyone,
I am working in a manufacturing organization as HR- Executive.
Please let me know the important points to be covered on "Dress code Policy"
My seniors was not so concerned about having Dress code policy but now as the management has decided and has instructed me to make proper policy regarding the same.
The management has told to cover the points like avoiding bright colours on weekdays & also to mention formal dress as well as casual on weekdays but avoid T-shorts & Jeans.
I am confused like if we are mentioning Casual on weekdays then how to frame the points?? or is it correct to mention the same in the policy???
Please help..
Thanks

Hello Anupamma,
The dress code policy can be evolved by finding answers to these questions.
1.0 Avoiding bright colours, T shirts and Jeans are already covered.
2,0 Should every one wear a tie.
3.0 Wearing sports shoes - Allowed / Not allowed.
4.0 Wearing shorts - not permitted.
5.0 Wearing a dress like Capri - not allowed.
6.0 Is the company contemplating to have Uniform ?
7.0 Are employees expected to wear a blazer.
8.0 Too tight and too loose clothes are to be avoided.
By asking such questions you will get information and clarity.

One more dimension:

In manufacturing organisations, there will be a dress code to maintain safety while handling or operating machines and equipments. If you have employees going out for clients call, or clients visiting your place, it is then better that those section of employees be formally dressed. Gone were the days when people working in IT industry were wearing all kinds of dresses (ofcourse with certain limitations !). These days even IT guys have been asked to be a little serious in dressing because 'seriousness in dressing begets seriousness in business and attitude' ! Further, weather conditions prevailing in a particular part of the country or world plays a crucial role....

Hence you have to take into account all practical aspects before arriving at a decision. It is also better to make a draft proposal for circulation amongst senior management staff, get their views also. Reason is that, ultimately when it comes to glitches, you cant overcome them without active support of senior management.

Best wishes
