I am working in a manufacturing organization as an HR Executive. Please let me know the important points to be covered in the "Dress Code Policy." My seniors were not so concerned about having a dress code policy, but now, as the management has decided and instructed me to create a proper policy regarding the same.

Dress Code Policy Considerations

The management has instructed to cover points like avoiding bright colors on weekdays and also to mention formal dress as well as casual attire on weekdays but to avoid T-shirts and jeans. I am confused about how to frame the points if we are mentioning casual attire on weekdays. Is it correct to include this in the policy?

In manufacturing organizations, there is often a dress code to maintain safety while handling or operating machines and equipment. If you have employees going out for client calls or clients visiting your place, it is advisable for those sections of employees to be formally dressed. Gone are the days when people working in the IT industry wore all kinds of dresses (of course, with certain limitations!). These days, even IT professionals are asked to be a little more serious in dressing because "seriousness in dressing begets seriousness in business and attitude"! Furthermore, weather conditions prevailing in a particular part of the country or world play a crucial role.

Hence, you have to take into account all practical aspects before arriving at a decision. It is also better to make a draft proposal for circulation among senior management staff, getting their views as well. The reason is that ultimately, when it comes to glitches, you can't overcome them without the active support of senior management.
