Feeling Stuck in HR? Courses and Diplomas to Boost Your Career Prospects

lavika yadav
My name is Lavika, and I work as an HR Executive in a well-known broking company. My profile consists of 70% recruitment and 30% generalist responsibilities. I have completed an EMBA through distance learning mode with a score of 87%. I believe that distance learning may be a drawback when pursuing higher-level positions, as regular students are often preferred for the same roles. Therefore, I am looking to enhance my qualifications and skills to add value to my profile. Can you suggest some courses and diploma programs that would enhance my qualifications and strengthen my CV?

When you have the right skills and knowledge, the tag of distance education does not affect your career prospects. An employer will prefer someone with a distance MBA who can start building blocks straight away when supplied with bricks and mortar, rather than someone with a regular MBA who rushes to the library to pick up a book to know what needs to be done when given bricks and mortar by the employer. Therefore, take initiative and focus on learning skills, as talent is a scarce quality in the market that employers are vying to acquire. Nevertheless, try to do a short certification course in HR-generalist profile, talent management, training and development, etc., and also acquire proficiency in Excel skills. They come in handy. Good luck.

I am a Diploma Chemical Engineer, completed in 1995. Now, I have also completed an ADIS (MSBTE) Safety Diploma. However, I want to pursue an International Diploma in Safety (NEBOSH). Which institute is more suitable and proper in this field? Please suggest.

The Importance of Education and Skill Acquisition

Education is not just about obtaining a degree; it's about acquiring the skills necessary to lead a good life in this world. Officially, it is important because it reflects one's efficiency, mental capacity, and effectiveness. There must be some proof of having obtained those skills, which is often a certificate. While some companies give preference to degrees obtained through regular colleges, your performance is ultimately judged by how you do in the interview.

Opportunities for Knowledge Enhancement

There are numerous opportunities for individuals to enhance their knowledge by taking various courses. It is often cheaper to pursue these through universities that offer correspondence courses. A general MBA with a specialization in HR would be a good choice. Many universities offer postgraduate degrees and diplomas in HR that are recognized by most companies. The Master of Labour Studies conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University is excellent, as it is the highest degree in labor law. Combined with an MBA, these qualifications will brighten your future.

Once you gain experience in HR, you can climb the career ladder, becoming a valuable asset. Do not focus solely on the salary package initially; with experience, you will naturally receive a higher salary package. All the best.
