MBA - HR After Career Break

SaviBiju
Hi,
I am Savitri and have a total IT experience of 9 years (software development, project management, client handling, maintenance and support, team management...).
I took a career break in 2009 due to personal reasons. Now I have decided to start my career again. However I do not wish to go back to software development and delivery. I already have an MBA degree. I wish to do HR specialization. Is it possible for me to get a break in HR considering my previous IT experience? Will I have to start from bottom if I pursue HR as my second career option? Request everyone to please provide some insights and alterbative career options.

Savitri, your career in HR shall have to commence as a Junior Executive, but with your IT background the preferred role may be as HR Analyst/ Business Analyst. These roles are generally with IT Software companies who are marketing HR Solutions. With your IT background, you will be able to quickly understand the automated HR products & also know client's requirements through interaction with their HR staff. Your success in this role can accelerate your career growth compared to freshers with no IT background.
Alternatively, you can look for positions with HR Consultants who provide human resources. The job will be that of a recruiter working in an automated environment.
In both the above cases, excellent communication skills shall be an important criteria since these are client interaction roles.

Hello Mr. Bhatia,
Thank you so much for your valuable response. I would be more interested in getting involved in core hr activities at a corporate level, rather than getting into recruitment profile. I was thinking of taking up MBA- HR (I am already MBA-IT), only if it brightens my prospect of getting into corporate HR. I am so very unsure of the steps required to restart my career back...
