Feeling Cheated by My Employer's Salary Offer: Should I Confront Them or Let It Go?

I am working in an IT firm that is fast-growing. I got placed here through campus recruitment (after my MBA-HR), and something strange happened at that time. They had contacted our college before and sent us a call letter promising a salary of 2.4K. At that time, I already had another offer (at 1.3K). But as I was interested in the profile offered by this company and also because of the higher salary, I sat for the interview and got selected by the firm. That's how I joined my firm. However, at the time of the interview, they understood that my current offer was only 1.3K. They then told me that they were willing to pay only 1.4K, and when I asked about their promise, they said it was a clerical mistake that happened on their side.

I really felt that it was unfair of them to do the same, but as the job profile they offered was excellent and also because I tried to believe that it was a typographical mistake (as they said), I joined the firm.

But now, I am the only HR person handling the whole HR by myself, and I am in very good relations with the management. I have a very strong feeling that they deliberately reduced the salary and cheated me. However, as I am extremely happy with the job I am doing here and I am one among the decision-makers with the management, I find it difficult to ask, and I don't know what their reaction would be if they hear something like this from my side. The main problem is I am very much involved, and I love my job here to a great extent, and I also know that the management is very happy with my performance. But the feeling that they cheated me is haunting me much. There is no other HR person here for me to even compare my salary with theirs and question the management. I also don't know if I could ask them for a hike as I have only completed a period of 3 months here.

Be clear in yourself. Money or Career...

You say you are happy.. you say that they deliberately reduced your salary...

How come they know about your offer (1.3K)...

Why did you decide to take the offer when you know these things...

Why, after 3 months, all of a sudden, has this thought come up?

Decide for yourself...

Don't expect much if you want a strong basic foundation in HR...

Please work with a happy mind and not a double mind...

I feel you are well-placed as far as your job is concerned. Continue gaining experience. In the beginning of a career, one should not be bothered much by salary issues. One should concentrate on learning new skills, and if the company is allowing you to work on important jobs, it should also be treated as compensation, the benefits of which you will reap in the future.

I have read your query and understood your concerns. What I suggest is that in the starting phase of a career, one must not think only about salary. The company and the profile you are working in provide you with a great amount of learning and exposure, so it's a small amount you are sacrificing for. As you said that they are happy with your performance, then don't worry; after a few months, they'll raise your salary.

Thank you all. But more than the salary part, my concern is something else.

They had decided to pay the HR person a salary of 2.4 Lakhs before knowing that my current offer was only 1.3 Lakhs. The work which I am doing is worth 2.4L or more (as I myself am handling the HR of 2 offices in two states). As they understood that I am interested in the job they are offering, they reduced the salary to almost half and just raised a little more than the offer which I had already. This gives me an odd feeling.
