Is It Fair or Legal to Be Forced into a Last-Minute Bond for Overseas Work? Seeking Advice

Hi all, I need help/information regarding the travel agreement/bond. I have been asked to travel overseas to work on a project. When the travel dates were fixed and all the arrangements were done, at the last moment (1 day before the travel), the company asked me to sign a bond. It states that the employee (in this case, me) is desirous of undergoing some training, and the company is spending XXX amount of money to provide the training. I am required to stick with the company for 1 year, or else I will have to repay the XXX amount to the company.

When I objected to signing the bond on these grounds, I was indirectly forced on the basis of my employment to sign it.
