Confused About Professional Tax Payment in Ahmedabad? Who Should We Pay?

Could anyone provide an update on the professional tax payment? Our industry falls under the gram panchayat of Ahmedabad. To whom should we pay the employees' professional tax – the gram panchayat or the municipal corporation?

I think, as per my knowledge, the Professional Tax comes under the Commercial Tax Department. You have to pay the contribution of Professional Tax to the VAT authorities of your Local VAT Office (LVO). Please correct me if I am wrong.

Dear Sanraj, Thank you for your inputs. Here, we have paid monthly PT contributions to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation by properly filling up the PT challan. However, recently we have received a notice from Ahmedabad Gram Panchayat office, through the Talathi, stating that we need to obtain PT registration from the Gram Panchayat office and make the payment to them. I am confused about whom we should pay, whether to the municipal authorities or the Gram Panchayat authorities. Our business unit falls under the Gram Panchayat jurisdiction. Can anyone suggest the correct way for PT remittance?

To the best of my knowledge, most of the Gram Panchayats have been covered under the Municipal Corporation. Regarding your query, if your establishment falls under a Gram Panchayat, you are supposed to register for Professional Tax and contribute to that specific Gram Panchayat only. Your Talati is correct.

Please also inform us which Gram Panchayat your office is located in. I would like to mention that we need to know where you obtained the registration for your Shops & Establishments/Factory.
