Facing Repeated Negative Outcomes: A Path to Success
Undoubtedly, a good one... I just wanted to share a practical life experience and seek clarity on how facing repeatedly negative outcomes can boost one to achieve the path of success.
Some years back, I was part of a small recruiting firm (Outsource Company). I will not reveal the name here. One of my close teammates really worked hard—calling potential candidates, explaining the mode of employment, gathering details, and finally processing profiles. Following the end-to-end recruitment workflow, their candidate got selected.
She felt so happy because it was time to acknowledge her hard work. She released the offer for that candidate and kept doing post-offer follow-ups. However, dark clouds came, and that candidate didn't join. Since it was her first time facing this, she didn't get demotivated and continued to focus on her work to convert offers into onboarding. Out of 10 selects, only 2 joined. Gradually, she lost her confidence, though it was nowhere her mistake because she always gave her best. Still, she didn't lose her confidence and continued her hard work.
On the other hand, there was a girl very reluctant towards her work, always saying, "I don't like this profession; I will quit very soon." One day, she got a candidate, and after that selection as well, the candidate joined effortlessly. This happened quite several times. She received many appreciations from her manager for her smart and hard work, which was nowhere near the effort of the previous girl. She didn't take proper details, no follow-ups, but somehow her candidates joined. Ignorance in work and achieving success made the other girl feel negative and unproductive. She couldn't understand how to overcome and improve.
We know the only mantra of success is "try with a great action plan." But even if you try hard in the right direction and face repeated failures, how will you keep motivating yourself?
Suggestions would be appreciated if they are practical rather than emotional.
Thanks,
Shilpi
