Hi Seniors, Please advise on my questions below that need some clarification. I am currently residing in Mumbai and will most likely be relocating to another city very soon.

- Is it required to re-register? If yes, what are all the rules and regulations?
- Is it possible to drive with an NOC in another state? If yes, how many months is the NOC valid for, and how do I apply for an NOC?
- Are there any other possibilities to transfer my bike?

Whenever you move to another state, it is better to change the registration unless you do not mind the hassles. A different state number will be conspicuous when the two-wheeler goes on the road. This can invite questions from authorities. I think normally an NOC is valid for about six months. Nowadays, most of the states have put up their websites where you can get the information that you want.

Although the information on the website is available, my personal experience indicates that it is full of hassles and additional costs. You will be required to pay the tax in the new state and then come back to apply for a refund from Maharashtra RTO. The best course of action would be to sell your bike here and buy a new one in the new state.

Please go to the RTO of the new state where you are moving, and you may have to pay the road tax for your vehicle if you are not a Central Government employee. Rest all remains the same.

Go to the nearby RTO and find an agent, and tell him to provide an NOC. Charges are a few hundred rupees.

Is It Required to Re-Register? If Yes, What Are All the Rules and Regulations?

Again, you have to visit the nearby RTO office where you are relocating. Find an agent and submit your NOC and bike papers. You can easily get a new registration number.

Is It Possible to Drive with NOC in Another State? If Yes, Then, Is NOC Valid for How Many Months? And How to Apply for NOC?

You can drive with an NOC for up to 1.5 months. You have to take the NOC from the Maharashtra RTO.

Are There Any Other Possibilities to Transfer My Bike?

Yes, you can pay a one-time tax for the state you are relocating to and just change your address with the Maharashtra RTO.
