Counting Leave Days: Should a Monday Off Include the Weekend Too?

We are a Pvt Ltd company in Haryana, and we work 5 days a week (Sat & Sun off). Now, if anyone takes CL on Monday, can we count it as 3 days (Sat, Sun, Monday)?

Dear Ajeet, there is no hard and fast rule on this. It purely depends on the company policies.

Actually, it varies from company to company. Generally, it counts as 1 day if the employee is present on Friday. If he/she is absent on Friday and Monday, then it will count as Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, which is 4 days absent.

If an employee is taking CL on Monday, then it should be counted as 1 leave. However, if on Friday the employee has been marked as absent or on LWP (Leave without Pay), and then takes leave on Monday again, Saturday and Sunday would also be counted as leave (LWP/Absent). It depends on the organization's policy on how to manage the leave system.
