ESI Provisions Extended in Tamil Nadu
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has extended the provisions of the ESI scheme to specified establishments employing 10 or more persons, reduced from the previous requirement of 20 persons. A notification issued by the ESIC stated that the threshold limit on employment strength for the coverage of specified establishments has been reduced from 20 to 10 persons, irrespective of whether the monthly wages of any person employed exceed or are less than the limit of Rs. 15,000. The new criteria facilitate the coverage of smaller establishments and employees.
