Considering a Shift to HR Consultancy: Should I Pursue This Training Opportunity?

seshagiri_chsv
I have been working as an executive assistant for the past twenty-five years. Recently, I joined a reputed company. However, despite the company's reputation, my boss is very difficult and has an attitude problem. He is facing some domestic issues at his residence, and I have visited his house a couple of times to assist with personal tasks, gaining insight into the situation.

Training Opportunity in HR Resource Management

Recently, I discovered a training institute in Hyderabad specializing in HR resource management. The institute covers statutory laws, HR admin functions, payroll administration, and independent department handling. The duration of the course is one month. Upon attending the institute in the afternoon, I found the teachings satisfactory. Additionally, the instructor mentioned that I could start a consultancy business in ESI & PF related matters.

I kindly request all members of this forum to provide their valuable advice on whether I should pursue this opportunity or not.

Dear Mr. Seshagiri,

Coverage of employees under PF & ESI has become quite extensive now, and almost all employees, including those working under contractors, are also being covered by establishments. You are also aware that until recently, these statutory coverages were in hard copy formats, and most companies had to go through the process of compiling data in hard form and submitting it. However, now everything has been made online, including monthly returns, and I am not sure whether you will get a sizeable business as you intend to start up now.

On the other hand, if you take up payroll processing, which companies are willing to outsource, it could be lucrative. But, you need to be conversant with payroll packages and their features. In my opinion, if you take up payroll processing, which is being charged at a fixed cost per employee by companies, it will be beneficial.

ALL THE VERY BEST

My dear Seshagiri, think whatever happened to you is good for you. Do not use abusive language with anybody. As Mr. Kannan said, ESI and EPF are now available online. However, some small companies still require expert services. Make yourself comfortable with ESI and EPF online procedures and offer your consultancy services at minimal per-head rates, which should be very convenient for small companies.

Yours sincerely,
Major D. Bhushan Rao
