Mandatory Aadhaar Submission for New EPF Members

For new EPF members joining on and after March 1, 2013, the submission of the Aadhaar number is mandatory. Please find the EPFO Circular attached.

EPFO Notification on Aadhaar Card Requirement

Please find attached the notification dated January 21, 2013, from EPFO regarding the Aadhaar card, which is mandatory in all circumstances. However, as per today's Deccan Chronicle, EPFO mentioned that the mandatory submission of Aadhaar may be put "in abeyance."

That's right. EPFO is putting the Aadhaar circular in abeyance. This was also reported in Bangalore newspapers.

Please find the EPFO-New Delhi Letter dated 21-3-2013 attached, wherein the details of your query are mentioned. Hope the above is sufficient.

Though it is good for all concerned, since it will take time to implement fully, the EPFO has asked for the Enrollment ID to be issued and mentioned by the employers until the Aadhaar Card is issued. Thus, there is nothing to worry about for the new employees. Instead, it will be a secure method for tracing their PF account in case of need, alongside maintaining regular follow-ups of their PF account.

EPFO Update on Aadhaar Card Requirement

Please find attached the letter dated 06/02/2013 from the EPFO office on the captioned subject. The mandate for making the Aadhaar card mandatory has been withdrawn since it may not be possible for everyone to obtain an Aadhaar card by 31/03/2013.
