Tragic IOC Depot Fire at Hazira: Why Is Higher Management Not Held Accountable?

dipil
Another sad story I would like to share with you. See how the tragedy is continuing in IOC after the 2009 fire at Jaipur. The news coming out says that 5 people have been arrested. All those are very junior-level persons. Why is the higher management not being blamed for this? Let's hope that with this, IOC will definitely improve their Fire & Safety Systems. If anyone manages to get the real cause of this incident, I request you to please share the learning.

Thank you.

I am really shocked to know about this huge fire accident. I can strongly state that the REGIONAL FIRE OFFICER or FIRE Authorities must also be held responsible for not visiting IOC on a routine basis where there are chances of fire anytime. They must advise before giving the FIRE NOC/Advisory report with some percentage of the total value of goods to have the fire extinguishers. This will at least help to put the fire at the initial stage. No doubt they have not prepared well with MOCK FIRE DRILL or FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING using the available extinguishers or water hose pipes, which were not successful during an emergency.

Thanks & regards,

The points you have mentioned are very true. As the causes are not known, we can't say anything. When the report of the accident investigation comes, firstly, it will not be available to the public. Secondly, and surely, it will be a greatly polished political document blaming the lowest level deceased workers. Please see the Times of India story in this regard. It may be of your interest. I got this from Mr. Jagdish Patil, from PTRC. Let's hope that things will change in the days to come...

The fire accidents are continuing in all government sectors where they are giving less importance to fire safety. Most government offices are using expired extinguishers or ISI withdrawn fire extinguishers. They do not want to take precautions for fire safety.
