Transitioning from Education to HR: Is My Experience Valuable and What Should I Expect?

I am an M.C.M. holder since 2009 and started my career as a principal cum lecturer on a consolidated salary from 2010. I have been admitted to an MBA program last year with a specialization in HR and am currently in the second year.

I am wondering if my experience could be valuable in this field. What are the strengths and weaknesses of pursuing a career in HR? Which companies typically select candidates like me?

Career Path in HR: Personal Motivation and Opportunities

Did you opt for HR because you liked it, or because you thought it was a soft option for studying, easy to handle as a job, or under the influence of the views of friends/peers about HR? A lot of your career progress depends upon your aptitude for HR.

Opportunities in HR Across Industries

As far as HR as a career is concerned, every company or organization—from retail to IT, from media to manufacturing, from banking to insurance, from pharma to dairy, from telecommunications to consulting—needs HR. The opportunities are infinite, but so are the candidates from the B-Schools which are mushrooming every day. Therefore, the competition is tough, but of course, talent is in demand.

Leveraging a Teaching Background in HR

Regarding your background in teaching, you can leverage your skills in the areas of recruitment, training and development, coaching, counseling and employee engagement, content writing, or consulting. However, it is not clear to me what M.C.M means.
