Understanding Show Cause Notices in HR
Show cause notices are issued before taking disciplinary action, informing the employee about the alleged delinquency and asking for a show cause as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated. Another show cause notice is issued after finalizing the procedures, where the employee is asked why the proposed punishment should not be imposed. To ensure natural justice, a 15-day period is allowed for a reply. There is no specific format required.
