Aspiring HR Manager Seeking Advice on Skills and Communication Challenges

brindaprathi
Dear Seniors, I am a 6-year experienced HR professional with Generalist experience. Currently, for the past 10 months, I have been working as an Assistant Manager - HR in a large organization. However, now I aspire to transition into a senior position as a Manager - HR.

Skills and Knowledge Required for HR Manager

I believe that to become a Manager, I need to possess a wide range of managerial skills and in-depth subject knowledge. While I am confident in areas such as Recruitment, Attendance Management, Payroll, and Performance Management, there are other areas like training, Industrial Relations (IR), and Welfare where I lack experience.

Seeking Advice on Communication and People Management

I am seeking advice on improving my communication skills and effectively managing people. In my current role, I am encountering challenges with team members, not due to lack of work ethic but because some individuals come across as overly confident.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to address these issues and further develop myself professionally.

Thank you for your time and guidance.

Dear Brinda,

It is good that you have a wealth of experience, but I am sorry to say that to become an HR Manager, skills and knowledge alone are not enough; managing a team is an essential skill. "Presently, where I am working, I am facing many problems with team members. Not because they are not working, but because they are overly confident." This is something you should know how to handle to become a manager. Especially in HR, you will need to be very smart compared to others.
