Facing Uncertainty in HR Role

I am sharing a problem I am currently facing. I work with an engineering firm as an HR Generalist, but the company outsources HR functions, so I am on the payroll of an HR Consultant. My direct reporting is to the director of the HR Consultancy. My consultancy has signed a 1-year contract with this company.

Unfortunately, the company director passed away in November; he was the whole and soul of the organization. Now, his wife is handling the business and working as a Director. As she is very new to this industry, they have appointed a general operations manager who is now taking care of the overall business. Since the main chairperson passed away, people in the market are worried about giving any new business to this company. Consequently, they are running short of funds, which is why the new operations manager has decided to terminate some employees with one month's notice.

I have come to know that they do not want the HR department as well, so they may give us one month's notice to wind up the contract. I have informed this to my consultancy Director, and now he has suggested that I should not worry as I am not working on the company's payroll. If this contract is terminated, he will shift me to another client. Now, the problem is I am confused about whether I should continue with the new client or give my formal resignation to search for a new option.

Please help me with some suggestions.

Thank you all in anticipation.

Considering Resignation Before Securing Another Job

Why would you resign before securing another job? If your consultancy can place you with other clients, then there is no need to worry. If you are planning to switch jobs, why not first secure a new job before making the change?
