After more than 60 years of independence, we are unable to keep our mothers and sisters safe. Today, millions of sisters may have cried, and millions of fathers' hearts may have broken.

She was a student with a great future ahead, with an entire life to live—festivals to celebrate and dreams to achieve. There are no words on this planet that can ease her pain.

What's Her Fault?

She boarded the wrong bus. And oh yeah, SHE WAS A GIRL!!! Six men raped her one by one, rammed an iron rod inside her vagina, and left her to die on the road.

Naked, wounded, exposed, devastated. What's more, no one even turned to look at her. No one even bothered to throw a shawl on the unclad, ill-fated girl. She can never lead a normal married life again. She has gone into a coma five times since 16th December. She is unconscious, critical, and hasn't been able to stop crying. But you don't worry, you don't take tension; she wasn't your sister, she wasn't your daughter. But she could be. I don't know her, but this I am saying as a human, my heart is broken as a brother. Sometimes I fight with my sister, argue with her, but I can't even think of all this happening to her, and that innocent girl had to bear all that.

The Brutality Must Stop

These men don't deserve anything less than capital punishment for their heinous crime. We have to stand, and stand as one unit.

Stand for fast-track courts and capital punishment.

Please share it, text it, BBM it, do whatever you want but make this message reach the deaf politicians.

Don't know who the responsible persons are. Is it the chicken-hearted boys or the society encouraging such kind of violence without raising a voice against it? This is not the first incident, but it is not stopping. I beg you people, join your hands and fight against it.

I appreciate your post as few people complain about such illegal maneuvers. Inappropriate behavior with negative attitudes has fostered recalcitrance in society. The three main distressing aspects connected to the incident are the treatment of the girl, the antisocial behavior of civilians, and the dismissive behavior of politicians. I am outraged and gnashing my teeth with anger. The whole world is witnessing this unsightly phenomenon but lacks the courage to fight back—mainly due to the destructive behavior that negates the truth.

Many have been protesting for so long, and now it's time to take action to weaken the influence of the unfortunate and disaster-prone social evils (criminals). I stand in solidarity with this protest because I am a woman and care deeply for my sisters.

Sitting in one place and giving comments will not be enough to prompt any punishment for those individuals. It's time for someone to stand up, organize a strike, and circulate the message across various platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and others. Let's all come together and fight to ensure justice for the girl and punishment for the offenders. In my view, the government should deliver a significant and memorable punishment, not just hanging or any other lenient measures.

Specifically for rapists and terrorists, the government should consider imposing punishments similar to those administered by Arab countries.

Appreciate the effort for posting such a subject. There are some questions in my mind...

1st: Why are such incidents becoming normal?

2nd: Why did people not react to help the victimized girl?

3rd: Why are we so self-centered?

The reason is only MEDIA, people working in news channels, movies, etc. Ever noticed where such people with such disgusting thoughts and ill behavior are coming from?

In movies and television, only such things are shown that are not watchable with family. We see it as a status symbol to follow such stupid people. Disrespecting elders/parents/brothers and sisters or anyone has become a common trend. We like to have pictures of movie actors/actresses at home, but we don't display photos of our freedom fighters. This situation will only produce M. Jackson, Yo Yo Honey Singh in our country, but will lack in producing people with great thoughts like our ancestors used to have.

TV channels hardly show any programs that motivate people to become like our national heroes such as Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad.

News Channels do not show complete news and the true part of incidents. What they want is to add some spice to their news. Allow me to share an incident that happened to my boss. One of his relatives was publicly looted at gunpoint in an open market. Shots were fired, and foreign currency was stolen. When NDTV News Channel approached my boss, who witnessed the incident, he told them everything. However, NDTV people asked him not to mention that the looters had fired shots. (Why did they do so? So that the SHO of that place could not be questioned by others about the safety of that place).

Even though rape incidents have occurred before, they were not highlighted as strongly. So why is the media broadcasting them so frequently these days? I feel there might be some hidden secret, perhaps to divert people's attention from political fraud or other malicious activities. In newspapers, they never feature those who are benevolent and have made significant contributions to the nation on the front page. Instead, they highlight stories of killing, corruption, death, etc. They never encourage people to become courageous. They provide supplements with newspapers like "Delhi Times," in which they deliberately showcase celebrities wearing improper attire. What benefit is our young generation getting from this? The benefit is that we are exposed to people who are capable of publicly committing rape.

They are making us impotent. We can only discuss what's wrong but won't take the initiative to go in person and help the nation.

I believe these kinds of criminals should be immediately punished by taking off any body part as they do not respect others' bodies. They should not be given capital punishment but made to sit on the road bare so that people can be horrified before committing these kinds of heinous crimes. We cannot control the crime, but yes, we can control the criminal and further crime itself.

The Need for Deterrents to Reduce Heinous Crimes

Deterrents are essential to reduce, if not eliminate, such heinous crimes. Strict laws are required to deal with these cases effectively. Why are such cases not reported in the Middle East? Because they are aware of the severe punishments.

Delhi is becoming heterogeneous, and societal support is not available for the next-door people.

There is a song in Tamil, "thirudanaai paarthu thiruntha vittaal, thiruttai olikka mudiyathu," which means "crimes cannot be eliminated if the crime perpetrators do not change themselves."

It's really a shameful action, feeling shameful, guilt... being a guy, if guys are like that. I can't believe how those kinds of people are still residing in our country where we have much respect for women. Those criminals should not be kept behind bars, should not be hanged, but should be treated in a way that they will die daily. Concerns About Police Conduct and Female Security

I have heard that the government will deploy more police officers for the security of females. What a joke! Have you seen cops securing girls? I have seen numerous officers with bad, BAD intentions towards girls. They are not just looking but scanning girls from top to bottom and passing comments. No girl wants to seek any kind of help from the police (ask your colleagues, relatives, etc., for more clarity). Think about it: if the government deploys more, what will be the picture of Delhi/NCR? Hard but true, "we are like that only."

Severe Punishment for Heinous Crimes

There are many girls who are raped by such individuals. Even some fathers have committed this heinous act against their daughters. They should be punished severely. That is the only way to teach a lesson to all others who have such a mindset. This incident should not be treated like any other issue. They should be punished by the people. The government has to grant the rights to the people to propose ideas to eliminate them. This punishment should serve as a lesson for everyone, ensuring that no girl is affected by such things in the future.

Feeling Helpless in Troubling Times

This incident has left me feeling helpless like never before. In what kind of times are we living? December 21st was predicted as a Doomsday, and how I wish it was really one. The Lord created this world with so much care and love, and look today where we are, so far away from God and His love.

I have started wondering: what do I teach my children - to be courageous or cowardly? If one is courageous (like the boy who tried to help his friend and got beaten up and thrown from the bus, and a few months ago there was news about another guy in Mumbai who got killed because he tried to protect his girlfriend).

Where are we heading... politicians are busy making the most of every opportunity, whether it could be the utmost sensitive issue like rape, and there are some intellectual minds who are busy thinking of India as a global superpower someday. How I wish CAPITAL PUNISHMENT was introduced for the people involved in such crimes. There should be nothing less than punishment in full public view. When the accused did not think of committing such a crime on women/children, then why have mercy on such rogues? Hanging in public won't be executed since the people ruling the country at present won't do this. Remember what they did against Kasab! Can we expect such a step from these corrupt people? They won't make such a law since stealthily, they themselves are involved in such things.

The Debate on Women's Safety at Night

People have been debating and saying that girls should not go out late at night; they should be accompanied by someone. I want to ask my fellow Indians why we cannot instill fear in criminals so that they think twice before committing such acts. Society's Role in Addressing Crime

We all know the effectiveness of our police and legal machinery. Both are not dependable. The only way left is for society as a whole to react strongly. Such sick individuals should be treated with equally harsh measures, like being beaten to death by the public or castrated by the public. You will find that in no time, all these individuals will become compliant.

Social Responsibility and Media Influence

Yes, it's a very shameful thing, and we, as independent citizens, are responsible for such incidents. We don't bother about what is happening around us; we only think of ourselves. How many of us are involved in any social programs? How many are taking actions with print as well as electronic media to ensure they do not print or broadcast sexual ads, pictures, movies, and other such foolish things?

Most of the actresses are providing their sexual photos in highly regarded magazines and newspapers, and we are enjoying them. This indirectly supports such illegal activities, doesn't it? Even the double-meaning songs like "Munni Badnaam Hui," "Yeh Halkat Jawani," "Sheila Ki Jawani," are being enjoyed by us.

The Urgency of Addressing Rape Cases in Our Country

This incident has awakened everyone. It's good that we all are fighting for the victimized girl. But what about others? As the years pass, the rape cases are increasing in our country. She is not the only girl being victimized, but I pray she should be the last one. According to me, somewhere down there, we are only responsible for it; "WE INCLUDE EVERY PERSON IN OUR COUNTRY."

Reasons for Increasing Rape Cases

1. Fault of media: Promoting Sherlyn Chopra and Ms. Pandey-like characters.
2. Fault of society: Boys not being provided proper sanskar and given privilege over girls everywhere.
3. Fault of drugs: These are the root cause; drinking makes a person a DEVIL.
4. Fault of ours: Every day in this country, one or the other girl is being eve-teased, but there is no one to take a stand, not even ourselves.
5. Fault of government: Not taking strict action against such people, pending the hearings of the court and cases.

When we cannot cope with Western culture, then why adapt it? I say this because today having a girlfriend or boyfriend is a trend. But after having them, we should also learn to protect them. In this case, the girl was with her friend who was a boy; now it was his responsibility to leave the girl home safely, but he ended up with this mess by putting the girl's and his life in hell.

Well, I know this is not the time to find out the responsible person for this incident.

The accused people should be tortured like hell. That's the only way to bring fear to the mind of the people who think girls/women/ladies are their fathers' property.

We should protest on the streets as well. Until we, as citizens of India, express ourselves through peaceful protests, no change will come. Our tolerance has been taken for granted too much. We need to wake up, speak up, and exercise our rights.

A Call for Change in Society and Law Enforcement

Words fail to describe the most reprehensible, meanest of the mean, barbaric, and heinous crime that was committed by a few in Delhi a few days back. Actually, we have become so insane and insensitive that this situation has come. The society, the so-called representatives, the so-called lawmakers, and law enforcers have all adopted an attitude of 'come what may, it is with others, not with me/us'.

The Role of Citizens in Combating Social Evils

It is the biggest lesson to the citizens of India to react against the evil forces unitedly instead of leaving the matter to an inert government. In these cases, the media has shown the names and photos of the victims. However, in this particular case, they have chosen to hide the victim's identity.

Government Action Against Culprits

What are the government and politicians doing with those culprits? Don't hang them. Government, please take away their two eyes on one day. After some days, take their hands from their bodies. Likewise, remove their body parts. They should feel the pain that the innocent girl endured for all these days. Let's pray for her family. Please wake up, India, at least now.

The report stated that on December 16, the 'brutally tortured' girl and her boyfriend waited for half an hour at Munirka to catch an auto to reach Dwarka More. However, not a single auto driver was willing to go in that direction. Due to the lack of connectivity of DTC buses or the Metro to their destination, they had no choice but to board a chartered bus, which was the only available option at that time.

Yesterday, the Delhi Police implemented a new rule for girls in Delhi. After 7 PM, if any auto driver refuses a girl a ride to any place, she can note down the auto's number, dial 100, and report the incident to the police. The Traffic Police will impose a significant fine on the auto driver on the spot. For any incidents of obscene calls, threats, or abuse, the Delhi Police Anti-stalking helpline is available 24/7 at 011-27894455.

This measure could help prevent another incident like the one on December 16 and raise awareness.

The Need for Real Change in Tackling Crime

Creating helplines and issuing orders that involve gathering complaints and reporting to the police serve no purpose, as we all know these mechanisms are already in place. What is needed is a change in mindset and a strong determination for the implementation of effective deterrents, along with fearlessness in confronting political leaders and their associates.

I strongly doubt that any of the current government initiatives or the passing of new orders will be effective due to the interference of political figures and the lack of responsibility and accountability within the implementing bodies.

The key to bringing about the desired change lies in the unity of the people.
