Public Holidays Falling on Sunday: Should We Offer a Compensatory Day Off?

bharatijoshi
Namaste, I have prepared the list of public holidays for 2013 for my organization. Some holidays fall on SUNDAY.

Query on Compensation Holidays

My query is: Should there be a compensation holiday for these public holidays on the preceding Saturday? I kindly request you to share your views. I have attached the list for your reference.

Best Regards,
BSJ

A public holiday on Sunday is rarely compensated with a day off on a weekday or working day. However, declaring benefits for your employees remains a prerogative of your organization.

Compensating may not be practical. It is normally 10 days of holidays in a year. You can consider declaring 10 holidays that fall on weekdays.

The number of public holidays depends on the organization. The normal practice is to provide 10 holidays in a year. You can choose the holidays that fall on weekdays. Compensating for a holiday that falls on a weekend is not practical.

Thank you.

Holidays falling on Sundays. This is not the first time such a thing has happened. There is no provision in the rules for compensation for such holidays. It is the prerogative of the type of organization and its management.

Thank you.

Dear Friends, there is a view that National Holidays, even if they fall on Sundays, are to be considered Festival Holidays and should be compensated with another holiday (paid).
